Abstract

This research explores the compatibility of socialism with modern democratic governance, revisiting traditional socialist principles in light of contemporary political realities. As global socio-economic inequalities persist, there is a renewed interest in socialist ideologies, prompting debate on their integration within democratic frameworks. The study examines historical and contemporary examples of socialist movements and policies, analyzing how they align with democratic values such as individual rights, pluralism, and participatory governance. Key themes include the role of state intervention in the economy, social welfare, and the balance between collective ownership and personal freedoms. Through case studies of countries that have attempted to implement socialist policies within democratic systems, the research highlights both successes and challenges. The findings suggest that while there are inherent tensions between socialism and certain democratic principles, innovative approaches can harmonize these ideologies. Ultimately, this research aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on socialism's relevance in modern governance, advocating for a nuanced understanding that recognizes the potential for a democratic socialism that prioritizes social justice and economic equity.
